With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

How real-life superheroes can change lives

At Dragon Con, we raise money for our designated charity throughout the convention via auctions and other events. These funds are donated to a designated charity that is selected at the beginning of the Dragon Con year in January.

Organizations selected in the past have represented a wide range of community services, including support for families facing lupus, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and heart disease, assistance for the homeless, community food banks, education, and libraries.

Dragon Con is committed to helping the community through raising funds and providing a dollar for dollar match increased from $100,000 to $125,000 for the 2023 show.

The Official 2023 Dragon Con Charity Partner

CURE Childhood Cancer is dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through funding targeted research while supporting patients and their families. Since CURE’s beginnings in 1975, they have raised millions of dollars to advance promising research, lobbied for important legislation, and provided tangible support to thousands of childhood cancer patients and their families.

Studies reveal that lifestyle behaviors and environmental factors account for around 70-90% of adult cancer cases. Unlike many adult cancers, most causes of childhood cancer are unknown and therefore, not preventable. Childhood cancers are quite simply different from adult cancers, and the research that has increased adult survival rates rarely trickles down to help children.

Nearly every child diagnosed with cancer in the 1950’s died. Due to research, today more than 80% of children diagnosed will live. While that is great progress, it isn’t enough because 1 of every 5 children doesn’t survive and many who do survive will experience significant complications from today’s harsh treatments.

CURE only funds research into cancers that affect children!

Dragon Con Charity Auctions

In order to raise the most funds possible for our designated charity each year, we host several charity events throughout the show, including our main auction on Sunday morning through the afternoon. Saturday morning, we will have the items for Sunday’s auction on display.

Charity Submissions

We welcome all submissions for the Charity Auctions, held throughout Dragon Con weekend.

Without donations from people just like you, we would not be able to help local charities around Atlanta, consistently raising over $100,000 each year for the past five years.  Remember your donation helps us raise $2 for every $1 with Dragon Con’s company match up to $125,000!

If you’d like to help, we would love to have you donate an item for us to sell at the charity auction.  Items sold at past charity auctions have included: books, comic books, artwork, signed photos, movie props, prop replicas, toys, games, costumes, DVD players, computers, TVs, store and restaurant gift cards, weekend getaways at hotels, site visits to the “live” set of a TV series, a meal with an actor or writer, a writing review by an editor, inclusion (Tuckerization) in an upcoming book, and much more.  If you have an idea for something you’d like to donate and would like to discuss it, contact us at charityevents@staging.dragoncon.org

Auction Item Mailing Address

If you would like to send an item (or items) for this year’s event, please send them to:

Dragon Con Charity Events
Dragon Con
PO Box 16459
Atlanta, GA 30321-0459

Please include your contact information (name and email or street address) for donation tracking purposes.  Our computer system this year allows us to track all donations so we can send out receipts to everyone that made a donation (if you wish to donate anonymously, please let us know).

Auction Item Drop-off

If you are unable to send your donation to us before the convention, we will have a Charity Events Booth open Thursday: 2-6, Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 10-6, and Monday: 10-2. The booth is in the Marriott Hotel, one floor below the hotel registration desk.  At the booth, we will be displaying items that have been donated, as well as accepting additional donated items.  If you need help with your donation, come by the booth and we will have a staff member go with you to pick up the item.

As always, we thank you for your generosity.

Dragon Con Superheroes

The Dragon Con Superheroes is a community service project team for our members, volunteers, and staff to provide opportunities to gather and enjoy time with our Dragon Con family while giving back to our local community. Since 2014, Dragon Con Superheroes have contributed more than 3,100 hours to Atlanta-area non-profits.

We are looking forward to even more participation this year so that it can be our best year yet.  On top of the incredible generosity of our members, the community is strong and loves a good reason to get together outside of Labor Day weekend and we couldn’t think of a better way to do so!

Read more about the program and our projects here. We hope to see you at one of our projects this year!

Charity Application

Dragon Con is the largest multimedia popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music and film in the universe. The convention occurs over Labor Day in Atlanta, GA. We raise money for our designated charity throughout the convention via auctions and other events as well as a capped company match. These funds are donated to a designated charity that is selected at the beginning of the Dragon Con year in November or December.

Organizations selected in the past have represented a wide range of community services, including support for families facing lupus, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and heart disease, assistance for the homeless, community food banks, education and libraries.

We typically select a charity more than a year in advance so your application will be reviewed for the next applicable show and kept on file for three years.
